Kayak Fishing
Kayak fishing is usually the cheapest way to fish if you are looking to buy and use your own equipment. You can buy all the materials you need including the kayak for just around 800 dollars. That is much cheaper than having to constantly rent or than getting a boat to fish. There are brand new kayaks that come full prepared for fishing with all the necessary equipment but will cost you about 1600 dollars. It is well worth it if you like to go often or if you like the piece and quiet of not having a boat. There is no noise from a motor including no smell which usually scares many of the fish away.
When choosing a kayak remember that the sit on top kayaks are usually stronger because of the width and have less of a chance tipping over. If you are going to be with children these are definitely recommended because you do not want to have to worry that the kayak will tip over as the sit in one has a tendency of doing sometimes. You want it to be enjoyable and not have to worry about that. A narrow kayak usually goes faster as well as a longer kayak. Keep in mind you will have to carry and load the kayak into the car and down to the water so make sure it is one you can lift. The best idea is to go to a kayak place and rent it for a small fee so you can see how it is to paddle and move and than you may be able to base from there if you need more room, if it's to big or whatever your personal preference is.
Choosing a good paddle is important. One that is both strong enough to paddle quickly yet not to strong that it's to hard to paddle. Trying them out is the only way to see for sure what is the right one for you. Typically the lighter the paddle the better. Keep in mind what type of water you will be fishing in and how rough it is. The people who work in kayak sales would be able to tell you what you need for what type of water you will be fishing in.
