Let's Go Bass Fishing
Bass have become one of the most favored freshwater game fish and can be found in lakes, ponds, creeks, rivers, etc. They are also one of the smartest fish as they can recognize a lure after only one encounter with it. Bass fishing is exciting because they always put up a good fight. If you haven't experienced the instant adrenaline rush of reeling one in you haven't lived!
There is much equipment available for the bass fisherman. A light action, graphite rod outfitted with a spinning reel is a good place to begin. Your arsenal will increase as you gain experience.
For the beginner, live bait will work just fine. If you are tempted by the variety and pretty colors of the lures at the sporting goods store, start with a few jigs as they are easy to learn how to use. Simply cast and reel back in.
Bass fishing can be productive any time you choose to go. If your trip takes place on a clear, sunny day, try to fish any areas that would provide cover for the bass. Fish around the banks, docks or areas of vegetation. On an overcast day, fish shallower waters. When fishing a river, look for a point where a creek enters the river. The bass will wait close to the banks for prey to swim by. Experiment with night fishing.
Don't be shy about asking other fishermen where/when/how they "hooked the big one." Some of the best advice will come from friends and neighbors who love to fish as much as you do!
What are you waiting for? Pack up the cooler, grab the tackle, and find a nice spot to go bass fishing.
