What you always wanted to know about trout fishing but are afraid to ask.
If you are looking for a way to have a relaxing good time take up trout fishing. There is something you need to know, however, be prepared to rise early in the morning, before dawn, or....you can camp out the night before by the trout filled lake or river so you can rise before dawn to be ready for early feeding trout. Trout usually feed on small flies and some grow big enough to feed on other fish.
You will always have to keep an eye on the weather. It can change in an instant and if you are in the great outdoors, roads can quickly become impassable lanes of muck and mud if rain starts pouring down. One of the smartest things you can do is have enough food and water for many days and not rely on eating what you have caught. Just take the credo "be prepared" to heart!
You will need a good rod and reel. I don't recommend starting out by fly fishing. This involves throwing the rod and line back and forth with a special kind of fly attached trying to get the trout to eat the fly, thus eating the hook. I've always been the kind of person who hangs out on the shore of the water and throwing the lure, worm or whatever bait I have on hand and waiting for the fish to strike the line. I don't mind the waiting.....just bring along a good book. I do recommend sitting with your rod and reel because there are some States which have laws against leaving a rod "parked" in the water.
Always know whatever laws the Fish, Wildlife and Parks enforce. Always have a fishing license and driver's license on your person. You never know when you will need them as proof.
